Art History

You鈥檒l study art through the prisms of aesthetics, culture, values, and history. Explore diverse architecture, sculpture, and painting as well as mosaic, fibers, beadwork, etc. from pre-historic through the post-modern eras, around the world. You鈥檒l learn definitions of style and modes of execution, iconographic and other interpretive methods, and the economic, religious, philosophic, theoretic, and social factors that shape visual culture.
Requirements
Students are strongly encouraged to complete one of the following AHI.Q courses. Upon request, an additional AHI course can be substituted in place of one of the following the AHI.Q courses to reach the 18 credit minimum.
- AHI.Q 271 - Survey I: Prehistoric through Medieval Art (3 credits)
- AHI.Q 272 - Survey II: Late Renaissance thru 19th Century Art History聽(3 credits)
- AHI.Q 273 - Introduction to 20th Century Art聽(3 credits)
In addition, students complete 5 courses (15 credits) from the following:
