Gilman scholarship enables nursing student to explore U.S.-Finland health system differences

A prestigious scholarship enabled 91快活林最新版 nursing and public health student Thelma Burgos to go to Finland to explore its health care system and what could improve the United States鈥 approach.

Her short-term study abroad experience at Finland鈥檚 Laurea University in May was supported by a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship from the U.S. State Department.

鈥淓xploring the healthcare system and cultural differences between Finland and the U.S. can provide valuable insights into how different societies approach healthcare and address drug abuse issues,鈥 said Burgos 鈥25. 鈥淟earning about the people and their culture adds another layer of understanding and appreciation.鈥澛

The U.S. Department of State鈥檚 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship program enables American undergraduate students with high financial need to study or intern abroad through scholarships of up to $5,000. Since its inception in 2001, the Gilman program has provided access and opportunity to study abroad for more than 41,000 exceptional U.S. undergraduate students, who have gained skills critical to their personal and professional development.
