Living in close contact with many others can lead to rapid spread of influenza, which typically sickens people, including young adults, for eight days or more, so it's important to get vaccinated each year.
Now more than ever, it is imperative that all students and employees听receive an annual influenza vaccine, unless they have a contraindication to the vaccine. While influenza vaccine does not protect against COVID-19, it may keep many in our community听out of healthcare facilities, where they could be at increased risk of infection. Flu vaccine听reduces unnecessary healthcare visits and hospitalizations and protects vulnerable populations听at high risk of influenza complications. This includes people with underlying conditions such听as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, those who are immunocompromised, and children under 5 years of age.
